The Senate has confirmed the receipt of the request from President Muhammadu Buhari for the affirmation of the newly appointed service chiefs.
The request which was contained in a letter dated 27th January, 2021, was learn by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, throughout plenary on Tuesday.
President Buhari had on January 27 wrote the Senate requesting the affirmation of the newly appointed Service Chiefs.
In line with a press release by Media Aide to the President of Senate, Ezrel Tabiowo, the letter from the President, learn, “In compliance with the provisions of Part 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act. Cap A20 Legal guidelines the Federation of Nigeria 2004, I hereby ahead for affirmation by the Senate, the appointment of the underneath listed officer because the Chief of Defence Employees and Companies Chiefs of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The appointees for affirmation are: Maj. Gen. Fortunate Eluonye Onyenuchea lrabor – Chief of Defence Employees; Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru – Chief of Military Employees; Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo – Chief of Naval Employees; and Air Vice Marshal Isiaka O. Amao – Chief of Air employees.
“They’re to switch the previous Chief of Defence Employees, Basic Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Military Employees, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Employees, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and Chief of Air Employees, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.”
The Service Chiefs had been appointed after persistent clamour by Nigerians that the president brings in contemporary palms within the nation’s counter-terrorism warfare particularly within the North-East.
