LOS ANGELES (AP) — Taraji P. Henson will host a brand new podcast collection centered on the story behind the New Jack Swing music period.
Wondery and Common Music Group introduced Thursday that Henson will host “Jacked: The Rise of New Jack Swing.” The six-part collection will premiere Nov. 17 on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and the Wondery App.
The Oscar-nominated actor may also function a producer of the collection, which is being dubbed because the “rise and eventual fall” of the New Jack Swing motion. The collection will delve into the complicated relationships between a bunch of youngsters from Harlem who created the musical sound.
The story will contain “dashed hopes, jealousy, betrayal, medicine, hip-hop and rivalries.”
Megaproducer Teddy Riley is called the chief of the New Jack Swing period, which made its mark within the ’80s and ’90s. The musical type was fusion of hip-hop, R&B, jazz and funk.
Among the fashionable songs from the period included Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative,” Bell Biv Devoe’s “Poison,” Tony Toni Tone’s “Feels Good” and “Rumpshaker” by Wreckx-N-Impact.
“Jacked” will characteristic dozens of interviews together with band members and managers together with music from UMG’s catalog.
The podcast collection is the primary mission between Wondery and Common Music Group since each introduced their partnership final yr.
