SALEM — Matilda Ruth “Tillie” Tolson, 105, handed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, at her house.
She was born Aug. 21, 1915, daughter of the late Joseph J. and Matilda Rose Skrak Hurray, of their house on the northeast nook of East Euclid Avenue and South Lundy Avenue in Salem, the sixth of eight youngsters.
Tillie graduated from St. Paul Faculty in 1929, Salem Excessive Faculty in 193 the place she additionally performed on the ladies’ basketball workforce, and Salem Enterprise Faculty in 1935. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
Tillie was a loving and devoted daughter, spouse, mom, grandmother and homemaker. Earlier than her marriage, she labored as a human useful resource specialist on the U.S. Division of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. and Kansas Metropolis, Mo. through the 1940s. Previous to that, she labored for 5 years on the Deming Pump Co. in Salem. She loved stitching, gardening, flowers, journey, yard birdwatching and maintaining with household and associates by way of e-mail.
Tillie is survived by her son, John Paul Tolson of Salem; her daughter, Dorothy (Douglas) Stahl of Ferndale, Mich.; grandchildren, Andrew (Gloria) Stahl, Angela Stahl and Kimberly Stahl; great-granddaughter, Audrey Stahl; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in demise in 2005 by her husband, John “Paul” Tolson, whom she married on Thanksgiving Day 1947 at St. Paul Catholic Church; her toddler daughter, Mary Anne; two brothers, Dr. Joseph J. Hurray, D.D.S. and Philip F. Hurray; and 5 sisters, Might A. Farrell, Helen E. Hurray, Virginia C. Hurray, Sister Mary Matilda Hurray, H.M. and Sister M. Dorothea Hurray, H.M., each sisters of the Humility of Mary order of ladies spiritual.
The household needs to specific its deepest appreciation for her caregivers through the previous two years. Hope, Joyce, Equipment, Rose and Leslie supplied glorious and loving care and shared a lot of laughs with Tillie.
A Mass of Christian burial will likely be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Burial will likely be in Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
Calling hours will likely be held four to six p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, at Stark Memorial. Because of the COVID pandemic, the household respectfully requests guests to comply with masks and social distancing tips and don’t linger.
